WILLSBORO
What's in a name....? Seems the
hotel industry likes the name Willsboro. In doing a search for
the name, the internet produced at least two hotels with meeting or
banquet rooms named WILLSBORO. One is right across the lake in Burlington,
VT at the Sheraton Hotel. The
Best Western in White Horse England (Yes, England) has TWO rooms
named WILLSBORO. Imagine that!
What's in a name....? Part 2 A new sign over the
old bowling alley has peeked the curiosity of many. With the new
Visitors Center sign soon to appear (with the same spelling) over
the new building town's folk are asking...what's up?
Originally called Mill Town then established in 1799 as
Willsborough. In 1905 the ugh was dropped from usage with no
apparent reason. The Town Book has no reference for the
change... nor can the County Historical Society explain why the
change took place. The County Clerk's opinion is that in that
year the state changed the definitions of what a town and burgh were.
Willsboro being a town proper lost its ending.

Volunteers Videotaping Town
Board Meetings air on local cable access.
Darren Darrah, Larry Allen and Herb Longware have teamed up to
expand the interest in the workings of the local government. Under
the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) private citizens are allowed
to record public government meetings excluding executive sessions.
Herb Longware of Cable Communications of Willsboro has agreed to air
the meetings on the public access channel on a regular set schedule.
Because the recordings are by private citizens, the tapes will not
be available and is not considered public record. By setting a
regular airing schedule citizens can set their VCR's accordingly.

Barkeaters U-19 Rugby Football Club began its 2008 campaign
with its annual trek to the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival to play its

good time was had by all as the North Country's unique version of
snow rugby had relatively warm weather and 12+ inches of snow to
plow through. Barkeaters rugby is open to area youth ages 13 to 19.
Both boys and girls teams are available.
