With the unseasonable warm spring temperatures local maple producers scurried to get production started. Bradley French of Maple Brook Farms in Reber said that even though it was the earliest he has ever tapped, it was also the shortest season.

French's operation had 1,400 taps of their own and another 3,500 taps from friends and relatives producing "about the same quantity as last year." he added. Kent Cauley, who produces as a hobby with 200 taps, said "when it (the sap) came, it came fast." Both producers report that this year's quality is good. As a result of the early summer-like weather the trees budded ending the season.
